Surgery is not the first step
Most sports injuries do not need an operation. The first consultation is about getting the diagnosis right, with imaging where it changes the plan, and starting the right rehabilitation. Surgery is discussed when an injury will not heal on its own or when instability puts the joint at risk of further damage.
Dr East has practised sports orthopaedics at Mediclinic Kloof since 2012 and treats school, club and professional athletes from across Pretoria East, Centurion and the wider Tshwane area.
Getting seen quickly
Fresh injuries are best assessed within the first week. Contact the practice and let reception know it is an acute sports injury so an early appointment can be arranged.
