Dr Shaun East treats sports injuries of the knee, ankle, hip, wrist and hand, and performs hip and knee replacements for joints that have worn beyond repair.
What Dr East treats
Two areas of practice: repairing injured joints so they work as they should, and replacing joints that no longer can.
Sports orthopaedics

- ACL, PCL and collateral ligament repair and reconstruction after sporting and twisting injuries.

- Repair or trimming of torn cartilage in the knee, done arthroscopically wherever possible.
- Arthroscopy
- Keyhole surgery of the knee, ankle, hip and wrist through small incisions, with a faster return to activity.

- Diagnosis and treatment of acute and overuse injuries, with a plan to get you back to training safely.

- Ligament injuries, instability and other pathologies of the smaller and load-bearing joints.

- Fractures and joint problems in children and teenagers, treated with growing bones in mind.

- Total and partial knee arthroplasty for arthritis and joint damage that no longer responds to other treatment.
- Hip replacement
- Total hip arthroplasty to relieve pain and restore movement in a worn or damaged hip.
About Dr East
Dr Shaun East qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon in 2011 at the University of Pretoria. He began in dual practice, as a consultant surgeon at Kalafong Hospital and the University of Pretoria alongside part-time private practice.
He has practised at Mediclinic Kloof since 2012, where he developed a special interest in sports orthopaedics: knee ligament and meniscal injuries, ankle injuries, hip injuries, and wrist and hand pathologies. He also has a particular interest in hip and knee arthroplasty.
